Man, 48, charged with trafficking

A Toronto man has been charged in connection with importing a large amount of opium.
The man was arrested on Thursday by the Toronto Airport Drug Enforcement Unit working in concert with Canada Border Services Agency after a seizure of 3.8 kilograms of opium at the Pearson International Airport.

The Toronto Airport Drug Enforcement Unit is comprised of law enforcement personnel from the RCMP, Peel Regional Police, Canada Border Services Agency, OPP and Toronto Police Service.

RCMP Corp. Michele Paradise said police used a special investigational technique that enabled them to locate and arrest the man, but she wouldn’t specify what the technique was.

Adel Asharikamrani, 48, is charged with importation and possession for the purpose of trafficking. He will appear in a Brampton court for a bail hearing.
