Dear Madam Arbour,
Re: Identifying the residents of Camp “Ashraf” in Iraq and offering MKOs’ dissidents the protection of law and an opportunity to establish themselves in a free country
With the rise of tension between the United States and Iran, we wish to express our serious concern about the fate and the future of the residents of the Camp Ashraf run by the Mojahedin-e Khalq, in Iraq.
Just as we welcomed the international pressure about the situation in Guantanamo Bay, which resulted in the Supreme Court of the United States calling it illegal and unconstitutional, we wish to draw your attention to the similar, if not worse, situation in the case of Camp Ashraf.
There are remarkable similarities between the two camps, though one is not officially referred to as a military prison. In both cases a group of citizens of a country are being held captive in a foreign country under the control of the American forces without supervision.
